Gün Ünal completed his undergraduate studies at Bilkent University and his master's degree in International Relations at Hacettepe University. His master's thesis focused on Turkey's security perception in international regimes. Between 2018 and 2021, he worked as a Researcher at the ORSAM Middle East Studies Center, and in 2022, he served as a graduate visiting researcher at EuroPolitika Journal. In 2019, he participated in the Think Tank Training Program organized by the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin and Rabat. His works have been published in journals such as Ortadoğu Analiz, Diplomatic Observer, and Turkish Policy Quarterly. Gün Ünal is currently a PhD candidate in the Political Science program at Ankara University.
